WinAMP / Windows Media Player skins optimization |
When you download an additional skin for WinAMP
or WMP, maybe you don't know that you got a zip file. Rename a ".WAL"
or a ".WMZ" file to ".ZIP" and open it.
Surprised? Well, ZipGenius take advantage of this chance and allows to optimize these
skin files, just as you can do with OpenOffice.org and StarOffice
documents. ZipGenius can extract all files from a
OpenOffice.org document and recompress them with the Brutal compression level.
Thanks to this feature, skin files will be 1-7% smaller than
before. In this case you can't optimize those files from the context menu, but
only through ZipGenius popup menu: click "Open", choose a skin
file and right-click in ZipGenius window. Finally, choose "Optimize skin"
from the popup menu.
When you optimize a skin file, ZipGenius stores a backup copy with ".BAK" extension, so you may recover the original skin file; also, ZipGenius add a comment to the skin file (it's a zip file comment): "ZG". This comment is used to check if the skin file has been already optimized or not.
